Meggitt Sensing Systems hires Director of Research and Development for Wilcoxon Research products

October 19, 2011— Germantown, MD - Meggitt Sensing System (MSS), the manufacturer of industry-leading accelerometers and vibration sensing products, announced today that it has hired Dr. Christopher McLean as the Director of Research and Development for Wilcoxon Research products. Dr. McLean brings 15 years of product development experience to the dynamic Wilcoxon Research team.

Dr. McLean will drive research and development activities with the objective of establishing new product lines and incorporating breakthrough technology consistent with MSS objectives. He will also be a key contributor to business development initiatives, which include the securing of government and other externally funded leading-edge development programs.

Having previous experience with Wilcoxon Research products, Dr. Mclean was the founder of a high tech company Techkor, which in the 1990s developed a wireless digital vibration sensor using a Wilcoxon Research sensing element. Chris has an impressive technical background and direct experience in the industrial sensor market that will enable us to advance our product offerings significantly, said Derek Carbin, General Manager of Wilcoxon Research products. He has demonstrated excellent entrepreneurial skills that will be applied to the development of new and exciting 21st century Wilcoxon products.

Joining Meggitt Sensing Systems from Phoenix Contact where he served as the Group Leader of its Electronic Development, Global Products Department, Dr. McLean was responsible for leading internal and external multidisciplinary product development teams through the development process from concept to production. His experiences include design of analog and digital circuitry, mixed signal, wireless electronic systems, and various industrial sensors. Dr. McLean holds a PhD, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Since 1999, Wayne Zavis has led the development of the Wilcoxon Research product line and contract engineering programs; first as Principal Engineer until 2004, then as the Director of Research and Development. Wayne will take his experience to Meggitt, San Juan Capistrano where he assumes a new role as Director of Applied Research and Technology for MSS, North America. He will be responsible for managing and administrating intellectual property, as well as identifying and evaluating new technologies that can advance MSS products. Mr. Zavis has previous experience with MSS, San Juan Capistrano when he worked for Endevco (now MSS) from 1984 to1990. Endevco is a global leader in the design and manufacture of dynamic instrumentation for vibration, shock and pressure measurements.
